My only pair of "city-appropriate" sandals broke the other day. Without much hope of finding shoes in Japan that fit me (US size 9), I went into a shoe store, just in case. The LL sized ones were hopelessly too small. I gave up on the idea. But as I was heading out of store, I see a separate rack, off in the corner. I try on a pair, and miraculously, they fit. I look up to check the size of shoes on that rack: "MODEL SIZE".
Way to go, Japanese politeness!
